Staff Stories

Miya (Sapporo, Japan)

Miya is a passionate traveler who joined us after her time exploring, volunteering and learning Spanish in Latin America (Guatemala). Her warm, upbeat personality, keen attention to detail, and excellent customer service skills made her a perfect fit for the Ki Niseko front desk team. Her ability to speak Japanese, English, and Mandarin was an incredible asset, helping to create seamless experiences for our guests. We truly appreciate her contributions and hope to welcome her back for the 2025/26 winter season!

What is your favourite thing about/ to do in Niseko?

I love meeting people from all over the world and being surrounded by so many different languages! One of the highlights of my time here has been immersing myself in Japanese culture—learning traditional drumming and Ikebana flower arrangement in Kutchan, the town next to Niseko Hirafu. I was especially thrilled to have the opportunity to perform drumming at both Ki Niseko and Skye Niseko!

What do you like best about your role?

It always brings me joy to hear that our guests had a wonderful stay. I love the work environment and the opportunity to collaborate with colleagues from diverse nationalities, allowing me to practice both English and Chinese. Being part of this team has been such a rewarding experience, and I truly appreciate working with such amazing people. I love this hotel and would love to return again!

What is one piece of advice you would give to people wanting to come to Niseko?

Niseko Hirafu is a modern and international hub, but just next door in Kutchan, you’ll find a more local, authentic side of Japan—charming restaurants, friendly locals, and rich cultural experiences! If you want to immerse yourself in Japanese culture, I highly recommend exploring there. And don’t miss out on trying Kutchan’s famous potatoes, fresh local milk, and delicious Japanese pears! 😄🍐🥔
