Staff Stories

Jess (Melbourne, Australia)

Jess joined us for her first ski season, arriving with skiing experience but embracing the challenge of learning to snowboard. From day one, she has been a warm and welcoming presence at Ki Spa, assisting guests with onsen access, massage bookings, and spa treatments. Her kindness and positive spirit have made her an invaluable part of the 2024/25 winter seasonal team, and she will be truly missed as a friendly face at the Ki Spa reception.

What is your favourite thing about/ to do in Niseko?

My perfect day in Niseko starts with a morning snow board, followed by an afternoon session of yin yoga, and ending with an evening onsen, bowl of hot ramen and a gathering of friends to karaoke my night away - on repeat!

What do you like best about your role?

Every guest leaves the spa floating, it's a really nice environment to work in when you get to talk to people all day who are excited to come and see you because you're providing a special moment for them on their holiday!

It also makes for the best work/life balance when l can board straight to into work at on of the coolest ski-in ski-out hotels that is so close to the Hirafu King Gondola!

What is one piece of advice you would give to people wanting to come to Niseko?

Invest in good snow gear, its worth it! Bring grippy snow shoes- it's icy on the sidewalks and the last thing you want to do is hurt yourself outside the kombini. Bring those extra layers and your favourite jumper! It's cold and you won't regret it!

Also don't be afraid to explore outside Niseko, head to some other ski resorts and try to go to the Sapporo Snow Festival! And get to know some Japanese locals, it'll enrich your experience no end!
